Flagstaff Day Trips for Seniors - Baymont Inn and Suites Flagstaff AZ

Flagstaff has plenty of things to do for senior citizens, whether coming out for a quick weekend trip to relax or a longer stay to take in the sights. Between the culture, mountain scenery and historical sites, there is something for everyone in Flagstaff — no matter what age.

Seniors can experience Flagstaff's beauty and history with any of the following sites or activities.

Sedona is a little under an hour away from Flagstaff and definitely worth the trip. The scenery alone is unforgettable, with red-rock monoliths all around and the incredible Oak Creek Canyon at the north side of the city. With a collection of art galleries, frequent cultural festivals and a variety of delicious dining options, Sedona is a perfect day trip for couples looking for romance or groups looking for a relaxing getaway.

Petrified Forest/Painted Desert

These sites are the true gems of northern Arizona and are located within a couple of hours of Flagstaff. The Petrified Forest is covered with stone remnants of the trees that once stood there millions of years ago, along with fossils, archaeological sites and ruins. It also has the largest known concentration of solar calendars. The Painted Desert, which is adjacent to the Petrified Forest, offers a landscape of beautiful colored rocks layered on top of each other. Due to shifts in the Earth's crust and stacking of sediments, the rock structures are layered with lavenders, reds, oranges, pinks and grays, providing an amazing, natural wonder for the eyes.

Sunset Crater Volcano

Just about 30 minutes from Flagstaff is the Sunset Crater Volcano, a cinder cone within the San Francisco Volcanic Field. Lined with Ponderosa pines and topped with a red/orange glow, this geological beauty offers visitors spectacular views of lava fields, colorful geological features and the nearby San Francisco Peaks.

Cameron Trading Post

Cameron Trading Post is approximately an hour from Flagstaff and provides a taste of local culture and history with excellent shopping. Visitors can purchase Native American art and jewelry, clothing, home décor, toys, kitchen accessories and health and beauty products, all in one place.

Plan a trip to Flagstaff for some senior-friendly exploration and come back to a relaxing, comfy room at the Baymont Inn Flagstaff after a day trip to one of these nearby destinations.
